John Twitchen is a versatile tenor who especially enjoys working in opera and oratorio and has broad experience as a choral and ensemble singer. He graduated from the Chichester Conservatoire in 2017 with a first-class BMus in Vocal performance, where he sang Schumann’s Dichterliebe in his dissertation and created a musical exhibition around William Walton’s Façade.

He was a member of Glyndebourne Youth Opera for three years before becoming Joining Roverside Opera under the baton of Sam Evans. He went on to become a choral scholar at St Martin in the Fields, singing with I Fagiolini under the baton of Robert Hollingworth and has since worked with the Royal Choral Society, English Chamber Choir, Academy of English Voices, Platinum Choral Foundation, and Voces Sacres in Saint Jean de Côle, and is a soloist for Armonico Consort, Billingshurst Choral Society, Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra, and Mosaic Voices in the New West End Synagogue.

John has performed various operatic roles, including Nemorino in L’Elisir D’Amore, Rodolfo in La Boheme, Remendado in Carmen, Alfredo in Die Fledermaus and Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni. He had the pleasure of singing Vassal in Wagners Ring Cycle with Longborough Festival Opera and Joined the Dorset Opera Summer School for three years performing Eugine Onegin, Verdi’s Macbeth, Rossini’s Le Comte Ory, Gounod’s Faust and Massenet’s Le Cid. He performed for the late Kathryn Harris in the National Opera Studio and has since performed with Ensemble OrQuesta, Carshalton Opera, Barefoot Opera, Riverside Opera and Opera South East. John has also performed oratorio works with various choral societies in London, Newcastle and the Southeast, including Evangelist in Bach’s St John’s Passion, Elijah in Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Uriel in Haydn’s Creation, Jesus in Beethoven’s Christus am Ölberge and tenor solos in Stainers Crucifixion, Puccini’s Messa Di Gloria, Mozart’s Requiem and Grand Mass, and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle.
